Club Duelz - Designathon Project

Club Duelz

Club Duelz is a concept platform aimed at bringing structured performance tracking and visibility to grassroots football. The idea is to help players, coaches, and clubs capture match data, track progress, and create opportunities for recognition. This project was done as part of a designathon, where our team of four collaborated across research, branding, UI/UX, and motion design to explore how football analytics could work at the grassroots level.

2025

Context & Goal

At the grassroots level, football lacks consistent and usable performance data. Unlike professional football, players and coaches have limited access to structured insights that support development, visibility, or long-term growth.

The goal was to explore:

  • How match data could be made simple and useful for non-technical users

  • How players could track progress and showcase talent

  • How a mobile-first platform could balance depth with ease of use

Research & Early Direction

We began by grounding the problem in real context. We spoke with stakeholders to understand pain points in grassroots football, reviewed existing football analytics platforms, and studied how professional-level data tracking could realistically translate to the grassroots level. A QnA with the founder helped align on vision, priorities, and constraints early on.

From this, we formed a clear hypothesis:
Grassroots football lacks structured data tracking that is both accessible and meaningful for players, coaches, and clubs.

To explore solution directions, we framed key How Might We questions:

  • How might we make match data easy to understand for non-tech users?

  • How might we help players gain recognition through performance data?

  • How might we design a mobile-first experience without losing depth?

These questions guided both product and design decisions.

Brand Tone

The tone of Club Duelz was defined early:

Energising | Direct | Supportive

The voice was inspired by a coach who pushes players to improve without overwhelming them.

Logo Concept

The logo places the player at the center.
A silhouette locks into a hexagon, inspired by football stitching, representing an ecosystem of stats, structure, and support. When the player connects, the system feels complete.

Visual Language & Design System
  • Motifs: Hexagons and pentagons derived from football geometry

  • Illustrations:

    • 2D illustrations for onboarding and storytelling

    • 3D icons for in-app actions and stats

  • Typography: Satoshi, chosen for clarity and youth appeal

  • Colours:

    • Primary: Tangerine Red

    • Secondary: Amber Orange

    • Neutral greys for balance

A component library was built to support consistency across screens.

UI & Interaction Design

Key areas designed:

  • Onboarding experience

  • Player profiles with stat badges

  • Match stats and performance charts

  • Leaderboards and rankings

  • Scoring, foul cards, and stat animations

We also explored motion through prototype interactions, especially for scoring moments and stat updates, to make performance feel rewarding and alive.

My Role
  • Contributed to research and problem framing

  • Worked on UX structure and screen flows

  • Designed key UI components and layouts

  • Helped define visual direction and interaction patterns

  • Collaborated closely with the team across branding, UI, and motion

Result

This project was completed as part of a designathon, where our team secured 23rd position out of 110 teams. The outcome reflected strong problem understanding, clear concept direction, and effective collaboration under time constraints.

Key Learnings

This project taught me how to balance ambition with realism. I learned how to translate complex data into simple, motivating experiences, and how early problem framing shapes better outcomes. Working in a fast-paced team environment strengthened my collaboration skills and reinforced the importance of aligning product, brand, and UX early on.
